Ruxandra Rotarescu, a 5th-year PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, was invited for a seminar.

Title of the seminar:
“Applying compound specific isotope analysis (CSIA) to elucidate sex differences in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) synthesis/turnover”

This presentation will build on her recent publication in the Journal of Lipid Research“Heart DHA turnover is faster in female compared to male ALA- and EPA-fed mice” DOI: 10.1016/j.jlr.2025.100897

Ruxandra conducts her doctoral research in Dr. Adam Metherel’s laboratory, which focuses on how sex, genetics, and dietary fatty acids influence the metabolism of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Their research uses stable isotope tracing and compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) to investigate complex metabolic pathways.

Ruxandra’s thesis work aims to uncover the mechanisms underlying sex-related differences in n-3 PUFA metabolism, with the long-term goal of informing personalized nutritional strategies.
